The AP Art History exam assesses a student's ability to analyze and contextualize works of art and architecture from diverse cultures across history. Administered by the College Board, this rigorous three-hour exam evaluates understanding of artistic traditions, techniques, materials, and functions from prehistoric times to the present day. It is designed for high school students who have completed a year-long college-level survey course in art history. The exam consists of 56 multiple-choice questions and 6 free-response questions, which include short essays, long essays, and a visual analysis task. Success on the exam demonstrates a student's capacity to think critically about visual culture, understand historical and cultural contexts, and articulate informed observations in writing.
