The AP Human Geography exam assesses students' understanding of the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth's surface. This college-level introductory course examines how humans organize themselves socially, culturally, politically, and economically across space. The 40-question exam, along with its free-response section, tests mastery of seven core units: thinking geographically; population and migration patterns; cultural patterns and processes; political organization of space; agricultural and rural land use; cities and urban land use; and industrial and economic development. The exam is designed for high school students seeking to demonstrate college-level achievement and earn potential credit or placement.
