Descripción y detalles del examen

The AP United States History (AP U.S. History) exam is a rigorous college-level assessment administered by the College Board. It evaluates a student's mastery of the narrative of American history from approximately 1491 to the present, with a focus on developing historical thinking skills. The exam tests not just factual recall, but the ability to analyze primary and secondary sources, identify historical patterns, construct coherent arguments, and understand context, causation, and continuity/change over time. It is designed for high school students who have completed a corresponding year-long course, though self-study is possible. Success on the exam demonstrates to colleges a student's capacity for advanced academic work and can often result in college credit or advanced placement, allowing students to bypass introductory history survey courses. The 42-question format reflects a comprehensive evaluation of content knowledge paired with critical analytical abilities.
