The NCCER Pipefitting Level 1 certification is the foundational credential for individuals entering the pipefitting and industrial piping trades. Developed and maintained by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) in conjunction with industry leaders, this certification validates a candidate's competency in essential safety practices, trade mathematics, hand and power tool use, and the fundamental principles of pipe system installation. Earning this credential demonstrates a standardized, nationally recognized level of knowledge and skill, making certified individuals more competitive for apprenticeships and entry-level positions. It serves as the first step in NCCER's progressive, four-level training and certification pathway, which is widely accepted by contractors, industrial plants, and union training programs across the United States. Holders of this certification are recognized as having mastered the core concepts required to work safely and effectively under supervision on projects involving the fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of piping systems.
