Fluid Machinery

In a closed hydronic system, where should the expansion tank be connected to ensure the system pressure remains stable regardless of pump operation?

Heat Transfer

A closed hydronic heating system is being designed. The engineer is calculating the required expansion tank size. Which of the following effects can be neglected in the sizing calculation?

Heat Transfer

A heating coil has a nonlinear relationship between valve position and heat output. Which control valve flow characteristic should be selected to achieve a linear relationship between the control signal and heat transfer from the coil?

Heat Transfer

A shell-and-tube condenser is used to condense refrigerant on the shell side while cooling water flows through the tubes. To calculate the log mean temperature difference for this condenser, which heat exchanger configuration should be assumed?

Thermodynamics

A facility engineer is selecting a motor for a new pump. The engineer notes that direct-current motors have a power factor of unity, but the more common alternating-current motors, such as induction motors, have which type of power factor?
