Splunk strongly recommends, but does not strictly enforce, that candidates first achieve the Splunk Core Certified User certification and complete the associated prerequisite courses (Splunk Fundamentals 1 & 2). More critically, candidates must possess substantial hands-on experience using Splunk Enterprise, including creating complex SPL searches, reports, alerts, and basic dashboards. Practical application of the knowledge is paramount for exam success.

The Core Certified Power User (SPLK-1002) focuses on foundational advanced skills: complex SPL, data models for Pivot, lookups, scheduled reports, and basic visualizations. The Splunk Enterprise Certified Advanced Power User certification delves into more advanced statistical and predictive commands, advanced XML for dashboard customization, and more sophisticated data model acceleration and manipulation. The Power User cert is typically the necessary stepping stone to the Advanced level.

The exam consists of 60 multiple-choice, multiple-select, and true/false questions. Candidates have 60 minutes to complete the test. The passing score is determined by Splunk through psychometric analysis and is not publicly disclosed, as it can vary slightly between exam versions. The exam is proctored and can be taken at a Pearson VUE test center or through OnVUE online proctoring.
