ACCUPLACER Writing Practice Test

The exam focuses on two primary domains: Expression of Ideas (approximately 40-46% of the test) and Standard English Conventions (approximately 54-60%). Expression of Ideas covers development, organization, and effective language use. Standard English Conventions assesses sentence structure, usage (e.g., subject-verb agreement, pronoun clarity), and punctuation (e.g., commas, apostrophes, semicolons). Questions are presented in the context of revising and editing drafts.

The ACCUPLACER Writing test uses a computer-adaptive model and is scored on a scale from 200 to 300. There is no universal 'pass' or 'fail' score. Instead, individual colleges and institutions set their own cut scores for placement into specific courses (e.g., freshman composition vs. developmental writing). You should consult your target institution to understand the score required for your desired placement.

While its primary function is for academic placement within participating institutions, the certification serves as a strong, objective validation of your writing skills.
