ASE T1: Medium/Heavy Truck Gasoline Engines Certification Exam Practice Test

ASE strongly recommends a minimum of two years of relevant hands-on work experience in diagnosing and repairing medium/heavy truck gasoline engines before attempting the T1 exam. This can include a combination of formal training and on-the-job experience. While not a strict barrier to registration, this guideline is essential for success, as the exam tests applied knowledge and real-world diagnostic skills.

The T1 certification is specifically focused on gasoline engines found in Class 4-8 commercial vehicles, which have distinct design parameters, component sizing, duty cycles, and accessory systems compared to light-duty automobile engines. The exam content covers the unique aspects of medium/heavy-duty applications, such as larger displacement engines, different fuel and ignition system configurations, and repairs in the context of commercial fleet operations and durability requirements.

The ASE T1 exam consists of approximately 50-60 multiple-choice questions. Candidates are allotted 1.5 to 2 hours to complete the computer-based test. ASE certifications are valid for five years.
