APP Associate Protection Professional (ASIS) Practice Test

Unlike the CPP, the APP has no minimum years of experience requirement. However, some foundational knowledge or exposure to security concepts is highly beneficial for success.

The APP is an associate-level certification focused on foundational knowledge and is often a precursor to the CPP. The CPP (Certified Protection Professional) is a senior-level credential requiring significant professional experience and tests for advanced, strategic management competency. The APP validates your understanding of core principles; the CPP validates your ability to manage a comprehensive security program.

The APP exam is a multiple-choice test typically consisting of 125 scored questions, to be completed within a 2.5-hour period. It is a scaled-score exam, meaning your raw score (number correct) is converted to a standardized scale. A passing score is established by ASIS and is not a simple percentage. You will receive a pass/fail result immediately after completing the exam.

The primary and most essential resource is the official "APP Protection of Assets (POA) Reference" and the associated APP Body of Knowledge outline provided by ASIS International. These materials define the exact scope of the exam. Supplementing with study guides from reputable providers and participating in study groups can also be highly effective.

Study time varies based on individual background, but a common recommendation is 60-100 hours of focused study over 2-4 months. Consistency is key.
