PSP Physical Security Professional (ASIS) Practice Test

ASIS requires a minimum of five years of professional physical security experience, with at least three of those years in a position of responsibility (directing security activities). A four-year degree from an accredited institution can substitute for one year of general experience, but not for the three years of responsible experience.

The PSP is heavily application-based. While you must know foundational concepts and terminology, the majority of questions present you with detailed scenarios or vignettes. You will be required to analyze the situation, identify key issues, and choose the best course of action or most appropriate security measure from several plausible options.

The official ASIS PSP Reference, often called the "Red Book," is the definitive resource. The exam questions are derived from the body of knowledge contained within it. Your primary study strategy should be a thorough and repeated review of this material, supplemented by the official content outline to structure your learning.

Questions involving calculations (e.g., for lighting levels, probability, or risk formulas) are a known component. Focus on understanding the underlying principles and the correct application of the formulas provided in the reference materials. You will not need to memorize complex equations, but you must be comfortable using them accurately under exam conditions.

While invaluable, field experience alone is typically insufficient. The exam tests against a standardized, comprehensive body of knowledge that may include formal methodologies or terminology not used in your specific workplace. A disciplined review of the official materials is essential to bridge the gap between your practical knowledge and the exam's expectations.
