HiSET Science Practice Test

The exam is organized around three primary content domains: Life Science (approximately 50%), focusing on biology, genetics, and ecosystems; Physical Science (approximately 35%), covering chemistry and physics fundamentals; and Earth and Space Science (approximately 15%), including geology, weather, and astronomy. The HiSET Science exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 80 minutes. Questions are not standalone fact recalls but are typically presented in sets based on a stimulus, such as a brief passage, a data table, a graph, or a diagram of an experimental setup. You will be required to analyze the provided information, apply scientific principles, and choose the best-supported conclusion or interpretation.

Yes. A four-function calculator is provided for use during the test, or you may bring your own approved model. The exam focuses on scientific reasoning and interpretation rather than complex mathematics, but basic calculations involving percentages, ratios, or simple arithmetic from data sets may be required.

The HiSET Science exam is designed and validated to represent the knowledge and skills equivalent to those of a student who has successfully completed standard high school science coursework.
