GPHR - Global Professional in Human Resources Practice Test

Candidates must meet one of two pathways: 1) A minimum of two years of professional-level HR experience in a global role PLUS a master's degree or higher, OR 2) A minimum of three years of professional-level HR experience (with at least two in a global role) PLUS a bachelor's degree, OR 3) A minimum of four years of professional-level HR experience (with at least two in a global role) with less than a bachelor's degree. 'Global role' is defined as having direct, cross-border HR responsibilities.

The GPHR is uniquely specialized in cross-border and international HR management. While the SHRM-SCP (U.S.-focused) and PHRi (international version of the PHR) cover broad HR competencies, the GPHR delves deeply into the strategic and operational complexities specific to multinational contexts, such as global compensation taxation, expatriate lifecycle management, and navigating multiple, often conflicting, legal jurisdictions. It is designed for HR professionals whose work consistently spans countries and cultures.

The GPHR exam is a computer-based test consisting of 165 scored multiple-choice questions (plus 25 pre-test questions that are unscored). Candidates have 3 hours and 15 minutes (195 minutes) to complete the exam. The questions are primarily scenario-based, requiring the application of knowledge to realistic global HR situations.

GPHR certification is valid for three years. To recertify, holders must earn 60 recertification credit hours (including a minimum of 15 in global HR content) during the three-year cycle. Credits can be earned through professional activities such as continuing education, on-the-job learning, instruction, research/publishing, and leadership/service. Alternatively, retaking and passing the current GPHR exam before the credential expires also fulfills the recertification requirement.

The GPHR is highly valuable for HR professionals in multinational corporations (MNCs), global consulting firms, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with international operations, and companies undergoing international expansion. Key roles include Global HR Business Partners, International Mobility Specialists, Global Talent Acquisition Leaders, Total Rewards Managers for multinational teams, and HR Directors/VP's with regional or global oversight.
