IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (ICBB) Exam Practice Test

While IASSC does not enforce formal prerequisites, it is strongly recommended that candidates have completed at least one Lean Six Sigma Black Belt project or have equivalent experience. A solid foundation in descriptive and inferential statistics, as well as practical experience with the DMAIC methodology, is essential for understanding the exam's applied scenarios. Many successful candidates first complete Green Belt training and certification.

The ICBB exam is a proctored, closed-book test consisting of 150 multiple-choice and true/false questions to be completed in 4 hours. The questions are distributed across the DMAIC phases: Define (20), Measure (25), Analyze (30), Improve (25), and Control (20), with additional questions on Lean Foundations (10) and the IASSC Body of Knowledge (20). A minimum score of 70% (105 correct answers out of 150) is required to pass.

The IASSC ICBB is a vendor-neutral, theory-based certification that focuses exclusively on testing a candidate's knowledge of the standardized Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge. It is not tied to any specific consulting company's proprietary materials or training curriculum. This neutrality makes it a portable and universally recognized credential, as it validates core competency rather than completion of a particular organization's program.

Certified Black Belts often advance into leadership roles in Quality, Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement, and Process Engineering. They may become Master Black Belts, Directors of Process Improvement, or move into senior operational management. According to various industry surveys, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification can lead to a significant salary premium (often 10-20% or more) compared to non-certified peers, reflecting the direct impact these professionals have on organizational efficiency and profitability.

The IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt credential is valid for three years from the date of issuance. To maintain certification, holders must either retake and pass the current version of the exam or earn and submit 30 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits within the three-year cycle. CPD credits can be earned through activities such as attending relevant training, publishing articles, teaching courses, or leading improvement projects.
