CBAP - Certified Business Analysis Professional Practice Test

You must demonstrate a minimum of 7,500 hours of business analysis work experience aligned with the BABOK Guide in the last 10 years. This includes at least 900 hours in each of four of the six knowledge areas, for a total of 3,600 of the required hours. You also need 35 hours of Professional Development (PD) and two professional references.

The exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 3.5 hours. The questions are case-study and scenario-based. The IIBA uses a scaled scoring model, and a passing score is 750 out of 1000. The exact number of correct questions needed can vary slightly as the exam is psychometrically equated.

While the BABOK Guide is the definitive source and exam blueprint, most candidates benefit significantly from supplementary materials. These include study guides from recognized providers, question banks to familiarize yourself with the exam format, and workshops or online courses that explain the concepts and their practical application.

Preparation time varies based on experience and study habits, but a common recommendation is 100-150 hours of study over 3-4 months. This allows for thorough coverage of the material, repeated review, and ample practice with sample questions.

The most common pitfall is not reading questions and answer choices carefully. Many questions ask for the 'BEST' or 'FIRST' action a BA should take according to the BABOK. Rushing or applying personal, non-standardized experience without considering the BABOK's prescribed practices often leads to selecting a tempting but incorrect answer.
