NCCER Pipefitting Level 1 Practice Test

While NCCER does not mandate formal prerequisites, successful candidates typically complete the NCCER Core Curriculum (often called 'Core') followed by the Pipefitting Level 1 module training through an accredited NCCER training sponsor, such as a technical school, union training center, or participating contractor. Some sponsors may require a high school diploma or GED for entry into their program.

NCCER certification is a portable, industry-recognized credential that validates standardized skills and knowledge. A state license is a legal requirement to perform certain types of work (often involving medical gas, plumbing, or steam fitting) within that state's jurisdiction, which may involve its own exam. NCCER certification is frequently used to fulfill the training/experience requirements for obtaining such licenses and is valued by licensing boards.

NCCER credentials do not expire. Once you earn your certification, it is valid for life. Your training and assessment records are maintained in the NCCER National Registry, allowing you to verify your credentials to any employer nationwide. To progress to Level 2, you must successfully complete the Level 1 certification.

The exam consists of multiple-choice questions derived directly from the NCCER Pipefitting Level 1 Trainee Guide. Questions cover safety, math, tools, and pipefitting fundamentals. The standard passing score is 70% or higher, as established by NCCER and its accrediting body, the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

This certification qualifies you for entry-level positions such as Pipefitter Helper, Apprentice Pipefitter, or Industrial Maintenance Trainee in industries including commercial construction, power generation (nuclear, fossil fuel, renewable), oil and gas, chemical processing, shipbuilding, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. It is the essential first step toward becoming a Journeyman Pipefitter.
