OET@Home Practice Test

The OETHome is designed for qualified healthcare professionals-including doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and other allied health practitioners-who are non-native English speakers and are pursuing, or currently working in, roles involving telehealth, home health care, remote consultations, or community-based services where English is the language of practice.

The exam comprises four sub-tests: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The Writing and Speaking sub-tests are profession-specific. For OETHome, these tasks are tailored to home healthcare contexts (e.g., writing a discharge summary for home care, conducting a virtual patient interview). Assessment is based on criteria such as linguistic accuracy, comprehension, appropriateness of communication, and task fulfillment specific to healthcare environments. Scores are graded from A (highest) to E, with most recognizing bodies requiring a grade of B or above in each sub-test.

OETHome is recognized by healthcare regulatory bodies, councils, and employers in multiple countries including the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Dubai, Ukraine, and Namibia, specifically for registration and migration purposes in home health and remote care contexts. It is also widely accepted by hospitals, healthcare networks, and university programs as proof of English language proficiency for employment and study in health-related fields.

While the standard OET tests healthcare English in broad clinical settings, OETHome focuses exclusively on the communicative scenarios, terminology, and challenges inherent to delivering care remotely or in a patient's home. This includes tasks related to telehealth technology, coordinating with informal caregivers, describing home safety modifications, and managing asynchronous communication. It is more specialized than general tests like IELTS or TOEFL, which do not assess profession-specific language use.

Engaging in targeted study of home healthcare vocabulary, practicing role-plays for remote speaking scenarios, and mastering the format of home care-related writing tasks (like community referral letters) are essential.
