NPDP New Product Development Professional Practice Test

Candidates must meet specific education and experience criteria. You need a bachelor's degree or higher and must have completed 2 years (4,000 hours) of professional experience in New Product Development activities within the last 5 years. Alternatively, candidates with a secondary degree (high school diploma) require 5 years (10,000 hours) of NPD experience. All candidates must also complete 40 hours of formal NPD education, which can include university courses, corporate training, or PDMA-sponsored seminars.

The NPDP exam is a computer-based test consisting of 120 multiple-choice questions. You have 3 hours (180 minutes) to complete it. The questions are designed to assess comprehension, application, and analysis across the seven sections of the official Body of Knowledge. The exam is offered through a global network of Pearson VUE testing centers, providing flexibility in scheduling and location for candidates worldwide.

NPDP certification is valid for three years. To maintain your credential, you must earn 60 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) over that three-year cycle and submit a renewal application with the associated fee to PDMA. PDHs can be accrued through activities such as continuing education, attending relevant conferences, publishing articles, teaching courses, or engaging in other professional activities that contribute to your knowledge in product development and innovation.
