PMI-ACP: Agile Certified Practitioner Exam Practice Test

PMI mandates specific prerequisites to ensure candidates possess foundational knowledge and practical experience. You must hold a secondary degree (high school diploma, associate's degree, or global equivalent), have 21 contact hours of training in agile practices, and demonstrate 12 months of general project experience within the last 5 years (or hold a current PMP(R)/PgMP(R) certification to waive this). Additionally, you must have 8 months of agile project experience within the last 3 years. These requirements ensure certified practitioners are both educated and experienced in agile environments.

While the CSM focuses deeply on the Scrum framework and the role of the Scrum Master, the PMI-ACP has a much broader scope. It validates knowledge and experience across multiple agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP, etc.) and covers the full spectrum of agile project management, from team performance and stakeholder engagement to adaptive planning and continuous improvement. The PMI-ACP is methodology-agnostic and is designed for any team member involved in agile projects, not just Scrum Masters, making it a comprehensive credential for agile practitioners.

The exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions, of which 20 are unscored pretest questions. You have 3 hours to complete it. The questions are based on seven key domains outlined in the PMI-ACP Exam Content Outline: Agile Principles and Mindset (16%), Value-Driven Delivery (20%), Stakeholder Engagement (17%), Team Performance (16%), Adaptive Planning (12%), Problem Detection and Resolution (10%), and Continuous Improvement (9%). The exam heavily features situational and scenario-based questions that test your ability to apply agile principles in practice.

The PMI-ACP certification is valid for three years from the date you pass the exam. To maintain your certification, you must earn 30 Professional Development Units (PDUs) in agile topics within each three-year cycle and adhere to PMI's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. This continuing education requirement ensures that certified professionals stay current with evolving agile practices, tools, and trends, preserving the value and relevance of the credential.
