SAFe 5 Agilist Certification (SA) Practice Test

There are no formal prerequisites for taking the exam. However, it is highly recommended-and for most, required-to attend an official two-day Leading SAFe(R) course led by a SAFe Program Consultant (SPC). This training provides the essential knowledge and context needed to understand the framework comprehensively. Experience in software development, testing, business analysis, product, or project management is also beneficial.

The exam is a closed-book, web-based test consisting of 45 multiple-choice questions. Candidates have 90 minutes (1.5 hours) to complete it. A passing score is 73% (33 out of 45 questions correct). The exam tests knowledge across the seven core competencies of the Lean Enterprise and the SAFe principles and practices covered in the Leading SAFe course.

The SAFe 5 Agilist certification is valid for one year from the date of issuance. To renew, you must pay an annual renewal fee and earn 10 Continuing Education/Professional Development units. These can be obtained through various activities such as attending SAFe events, webinars, contributing to the community, or taking additional related courses.

This certification is designed for executives, managers, change agents, and consultants who are responsible for leading a Lean-Agile transformation at enterprise scale. Ideal roles include Program and Project Managers, Product and Solution Managers, Development/QA/IT Managers, Agile Coaches, and individuals in leadership positions who need to align and coordinate multiple Agile teams.

While certifications like PMI-ACP validate general Agile knowledge and Scrum Master credentials focus on team-level facilitation, the SAFe Agilist certification is specifically focused on scaling Agile across large organizations. It provides a structured framework (SAFe) for coordinating hundreds of practitioners, aligning strategy to execution, and managing the complexities of large programs and portfolios, which is beyond the scope of single-team Agile certifications.
