TORFL Базовый уровень (Basic / A2) Practice Test

The exam comprises five sub-tests: 1. Vocabulary and Grammar (Лексика. Грамматика), 2. Reading (Чтение), 3. Writing (Письмо), 4. Listening (Аудирование), and 5. Speaking (Говорение). To pass and receive the certificate, you must achieve at least 66% on each individual sub-test. A failing score on any one section results in failure of the entire exam, though you may retake only the failed sub-test(s) within a specified period.

The TORFL is the only Russian language test recognized by the Russian government. The Basic (A2) certificate is officially recognized by Russian universities for entry into preparatory departments, by employers as proof of foundational language skills, and by immigration authorities for certain visa and residency applications. Its recognition extends to international organizations and companies engaged with the Russian-speaking world.

The TORFL certificate is valid for life. The exam can be taken at officially certified testing centers located in universities and cultural institutions worldwide, such as the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, RUDN University, and their partner networks. You must register directly with an authorized center.

The speaking test assesses basic interactive and productive skills. You will be expected to engage in a short conversation with an examiner, ask and answer simple questions on familiar topics (e.g., family, hobbies, daily routine), and produce a brief monologue (e.g., describing your apartment or talking about your day). The focus is on comprehensibility and the ability to manage simple social exchanges.

The A2 level certifies survival proficiency for routine daily contexts. The B1 (TORFL-1) represents a threshold level, certifying independent language use. The jump involves significantly broader vocabulary, more complex grammar (e.g., verbal aspect mastery, case usage), and the ability to handle main points of clear standard input on work, school, and leisure topics, as well as produce connected text on familiar personal interests.
