LEED AP Interior Design and Construction (ID+C) Practice Test

There are no formal educational or project prerequisites to take the exam. However, the USGBC strongly recommends that candidates have prior experience working on a LEED project or comprehensive knowledge of green building and the LEED rating system. Most successful candidates have a professional background in architecture, interior design, engineering, construction, or facilities management.

The LEED Green Associate is a foundational credential demonstrating general knowledge of green building and all LEED rating systems. The LEED AP ID+C is a specialty credential that signifies advanced, in-depth expertise specifically in the Interior Design and Construction rating system. It is designed for professionals who actively participate in the design, construction, and certification of LEED interior projects.

The computer-based exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions (scored) and 10 unscored pretest questions, to be completed in 2 hours. It is scored on a scale of 125 to 200, with a passing score of 170. The questions are divided into two domains: Project Basics (35%) and the LEED ID+C Rating System (65%).

LEED APs must earn 30 continuing education (CE) hours every two years, with a minimum of 24 being LEED-specific. Of the LEED-specific hours, at least 6 must be from approved LEED-specific BD+C or ID+C content. The remaining 6 hours can be general green building education. Credentials are maintained through the USGBC's credentialing platform.

The LEED v4.1 ID+C rating system is designed for projects that are a complete interior fit-out, including Commercial Interiors (CI), Retail (R), and Hospitality (H). It applies to spaces primarily used by tenants within larger buildings, where the project does not control major HVAC systems. It is distinct from Building Design and Construction (BD+C), which covers whole-building new construction or major renovations.
