SAFe 6 Agilist (SA) Practice Test

There are no formal prerequisites for taking the exam. However, it is highly recommended-and for most, essential-to attend the two-day 'Leading SAFe' training course delivered by a certified SAFe Program Consultant (SPC). This course provides the foundational knowledge and context necessary to understand the framework's intricacies. Additionally, experience in software development, project management, or business analysis is beneficial for contextualizing the material.

The exam is a closed-book, web-based test consisting of 45 multiple-choice questions. Candidates have 90 minutes to complete it. To pass and earn the certification, you must correctly answer at least 34 out of the 45 questions, which equates to a passing score of 76%. The questions are designed to assess both recall and application-level understanding of the SAFe framework.

The SAFe 6 Agilist certification is valid for one year from the date of issuance. To renew, you must log into the SAFe Community Platform and complete a renewal fee. As part of the renewal process, you must also earn 10 Continuing Education/Professional Development units per year and agree to the SAFe renewal license agreement. This ensures certified professionals stay current with updates to the framework.

The SAFe Agilist (SA) is a role-agnostic certification focused on individuals who lead, guide, or influence an Agile Release Train (ART) or a SAFe adoption. It emphasizes principles, mindset, and leadership. The SAFe Practitioner (SP), in contrast, is geared toward team members (e.g., developers, testers) actively working within an ART. The SP certification focuses on practical skills for executing iterations, planning within PIs, and applying Built-in Quality practices. The SA is generally considered a more strategic, leadership-oriented credential.

The primary career value lies in its recognition as a standard for professionals involved in scaling Agile. It opens doors to leadership and strategic roles such as Release Train Engineer (RTE), Agile Coach, Program Manager, and Solution Manager. The certification demonstrates a verified, standardized understanding of SAFe, making candidates more attractive to organizations undergoing or planning an Agile transformation. It often leads to increased responsibility, visibility within an enterprise, and potential for higher compensation.
