SAFe Certified Product Owner/Product Manager Exam Practice Test

While there are no strict mandatory prerequisites, it is highly recommended that candidates have prior experience in a Lean-Agile environment and attend an official SAFe(R) Product Owner/Product Manager course led by a SAFe Program Consultant (SPC). Attending the course provides access to the exam, all necessary study materials, and the practical knowledge required to pass. Familiarity with Agile concepts and Scrum is beneficial.

The exam is a web-based, closed-book assessment consisting of 45 multiple-choice questions. Candidates have 90 minutes to complete the test. A passing score is 73% (33 out of 45 questions correct). The questions are designed to evaluate both knowledge recall and the ability to apply SAFe principles in situational contexts.

The certification is valid for one year from the date of issuance. To renew, you must log into the SAFe Community Platform and pay an annual renewal fee. As part of the renewal process, you must also earn a minimum of 10 Continuing Education/Professional Development units, which can be obtained through various activities like attending SAFe events, webinars, or related training.

While grounded in Scrum, the SAFe POPM role operates at scale. A SAFe Product Owner works within an Agile Team and an Agile Release Train (ART), managing the Team Backlog and aligning with the Program Backlog. The SAFe Product Manager operates at the program level, defining Features and the Program Vision, and is responsible for the Program Backlog and roadmap. The POPM certification covers this dual, scaled responsibility, focusing on alignment with Strategic Themes and collaboration with multiple stakeholders and teams.

Key areas of focus include: the responsibilities of the PO and PM in SAFe; writing Epics, Features, and Stories; backlog management and prioritization techniques, especially WSJF; participating in PI Planning and Agile ceremonies; understanding Lean-Agile budgeting; collaborating with System Architects and UX; and defining and measuring value using metrics like OKRs. A thorough review of the course materials and the SAFe Framework Big Picture is essential.
